Painting Encinitas homes, from the beach to the hills

Encinitas covers very different conditions within a few miles. In Leucadia, Old Encinitas and Cardiff-by-the-Sea, homes sit in the marine layer most mornings and take salty breezes off the ocean. Many are older beach cottages and craftsman homes with wood siding, shingles and lots of trim. A short drive inland, New Encinitas and Olivenhain are warmer and sunnier, with larger stucco homes, ranch properties and long runs of wood fencing.

What we see on Encinitas homes

  • Peeling and cracking paint on wood siding and trim from moisture cycling
  • Mildew on north-facing and shaded walls
  • Rusty fasteners and railings near the coast
  • Faded, chalky stucco on sun-exposed inland homes
  • Weathered decks, fences and doors that need re-staining

Every exterior starts with the right prep for its conditions: cleaning, scraping, sanding, wood and stucco repairs, rust treatment and priming. Then we apply premium coatings suited to coastal or inland exposure.

Inside the home

We also handle interior painting, cabinet refinishing and color consultation for light, airy coastal interiors.

They sanded the old stain off my double front entry doors and re-stained it to a custom color. It took a few tries to get the right color but they kept at it until it was the right color. They never asked for payment until the job was completely done and I was happy with everything. All the workers were very pleasant to work with.

Encinitas painting questions

What's the best paint for wood siding near the beach?

Wood siding near the coast needs thorough cleaning, sanding of loose paint, a quality primer on bare wood, and a premium 100% acrylic exterior paint that stays flexible as the wood swells and dries. We also recommend checking caulked joints every year or two.

How do you deal with mildew on shaded walls?

We clean mildew with an appropriate wash, let the surface dry fully, and use primers and paints with mildew-resistant additives. Improving airflow by trimming plants away from walls also helps.

Do you paint homes in Olivenhain and inland Encinitas too?

Yes. Inland Encinitas and Olivenhain are warmer and sunnier than the beach neighborhoods, so we focus more on UV-resistant coatings and wood protection on those homes.

Can you stain decks, fences and front doors?

Yes. Wood staining is a big part of what we do in Encinitas, from decks and fences to entry doors and garage doors.
